The First Annual STEM Charity Golf Day held on November 7th at the Links Shell Cove was a huge success. We raised a whopping $6,520 for The Smith Family’s wonderful Learning for Life initiative, which will help to support disadvantaged children to get the most out of their education.

The weather was beautiful and everyone had a chance to meet some new people and play some golf. Furthermore, we took the first steps to elicit positive change in STEM in the Illawarra. We generated press in the Lake Times, facilitated new industry contacts and have a much better idea on where each company sits on STEM issues.

With teams from Mainteck, CompuEase, Pactera, Custom Made Engineering, Evanscorp, Objective Computing, Emagine International, SendaScript, Mainteck Services and Selera Labs, along with players from the University of Wollongong, The Smith Family and the Learning for Life program, we had a fantastic turn out and everyone who attended had a wonderful time.

The best day, however, was probably had by Fabian McCann from SendaScript, who hit a hole in one on the 12^th hole. A once-in-a-lifetime event and a hard act to follow for next year’s event!

Work is already underway on the 2015 Illawarra STEM Charity Golf day – you may like to draft in November 13, 2015 for a day on the course (especially if you missed out this year!).
